@TravelingwithKristin I believe the mental health issues are a result of years of Catholic Church rule and repression, combined with governmental avoidance and social stigma. For a long time, mental health issues were brushed aside or seen as a punishment from God, or even a sign of weakness. Men had to be manly, and woman were stigmatized as being emotional in a negative sense. Many common insults or ways of mocking someone fall under mental health or disability categories (as well as many homophobic ones too). "You're a Retard/down syndrome/capper" are phrases you would hear often. The acknowledgment of these issues - both self and of others - is also generally ignored unless someone is very close, and even then not often. Many hide their feelings based on what other reactions may be. This is of course changing as awareness is being pushed, and the government is finally taking it seriously. Add in the culture of drinking, and smoking, combined with the limited opportunities for some, and the rise of social media and its ill effects, you have a perfect storm for these issues to continue. That all said, Ireland is still one of the most happiest, friendliest and fun countries to visit. The people truly love to help, and make your stay enjoyable. A place everyone should experience at least once. That is my perspective anyways..

People only help you because you are young,pretty and female if you were a below average looking middle aged man people would hardly ever talk to you.

Get some tips online for help in keeping food fresh for longer. Also I would recommend you ALWAYS lock your doors no matter where you are. The stereotype is the British are repressed and don't like to complain. When in actual fact we are probably one of the world's best complainers.

If you are coming from the US and are not used to centigrade . It is easy to convert from Fahrenheit to centigrade . A rough guide which works quite well is from Fahrenheit to centigrade take away 30 , then dived by 2 . So 70 F would be takeaway 30 = 40 divide by 2 = 20 . 20 centigrade would be the answer . Be advised the British gallon is slightly larger then the US . 4.5 US gallons is about 5 British ones.

Manchester is about 10th in size in terms of UK cities. But culturally many non-natives believe it to be our 'second city'. In UK I think we all know that Birmingham holds that boast.

Chuuuut Kristin, we need to censure the last part, the podium 🤫😂 Brittany is to much used as a backup place for Parisians and some other cities. We keep it as a secret, you can stay in the secret but don't tell the others 😂 This is a runnin' gag in Brittany as we get our houses bought by Parisians with higher salaries, even sometimes as their second home when they live only 1 month in. But, apart this joke, you are all welcome and we will give you a warm welcome and friendliness as usual in this region 😊 (p.s: I can correct something, Rennes is a big student city, I'm living here. During the study periods (september to july), 20 to 30% of the population are students, and most of them can speak english :) And if foreigners need help in english, it is best to ask to younger people as the english is mostly used by new generations)
